If you know source code, creating an app for a mobile device will probably not be the hardest thing you’ve ever done. If you don’t know code, creating a phone app will be a lot harder, though not impossible. Here I’ll describe the numerous ways you can learn from books, friends or even freelancers.

If you’re thinking that you have to have a Computer Science degree from MIT to create an app for mobile phones, you may be pleasantly surprised to know that this isn’t always the case. You can learn how to create a mobile phone app without having advance knowledge of programming code.

The First Step

You’ll first need a great idea for an app. Even though it may appear that there is an app for everything under the sun, know that there’s always room for the next great one just around the block. Think about what needs your app will meet. There are apps to help people find their lost mobile phones, play musical instruments, and even cheat on their significant others. Your app could even be a simple way to pass the time. We all know how well games such as Angry Birds did on the market! All you need to do is find the niche that your app will fill.

If in the course of research you find that an app similar to your idea is already on the market, don’t be discouraged. Find a way to improve on those apps. Remember those apps used for finding lost phones? There are many of those apps out there, but each one has a novel way of making sure that you don’t leave your precious phone behind. Some include a key charm that goes off when you move beyond a certain area; others have the mobile phone itself go off. Think you have a better idea? See if you can improve on it, and create the new money making app on the block.

Next Steps

Now that you’ve decided to create an app, the next step is to download the appropriate coding software for your computer’s operating system. Windows, Mac and Android have programs in place just for the purpose of creating apps. You can do an Internet search to find the particular program you’ll need to create one. The app creation software programs for Mac, Windows and Android are either free or inexpensive.

Almost all of the app creation software on the market, no matter the operating system, requires some coding knowledge to have it work at its full potential. However, if you don’t have that computer science degree, there is still hope.

If You Don’t Know Anything About Source Codes

If you don’t know anything about coding languages, the good news is that there are websites that will aid you in app creation. What these websites do is allow you to input the required information into their program. Some of these websites even offer tutorials for their app creation tools. The downside is that even with these websites, you’ll still need to have some working knowledge of source codes.

To compensate for this, you can consult the various self-help books on the market that are targeted towards app design. (You can either do an Internet or Amazon search to find a few.) If you have a friend who knows source code, you could even ask them to help you with the project. If not, you can hire a freelancer.

If you know source code, creating a phone app may not be hard at all. The process still requires a lot of trial and error, as well as a creative mind with an eye for design, but the path may be a bit smoother than for those who don’t have coding expertise.

Search engine optimization, mass email, and pay per click advertising are three of the most important online marketing techniques that can help you to grow your business.
